were you aware that a revised version of the USP 797
regulation was issued in 2008? If not, here’s a summary of
what’s new in this regulation, and how it could impact the
design of your pharmacy. By way of background, the term “USP
797” itself is short hand for a chapter published by the
United States Pharmacopoeia -National Formulary (USP-NF)
entitled “Pharmaceutical Compounding-Sterile Preparations”.
Starting with the first, 2004 edition of USP 797, and carrying
over into the current edition (official on June 1, 2008), USP
797 spells out a comprehensive quality system for the design
and operation of sterile compounding areas (and their support
